What is a Soft Credit? Soft credit donation recognition refers to assigning credit for a donation to one or more donors who cannot be credited for the gift from a legal or tax-credit standpoint but in some way influenced the donation. One common example is when a donor gives a gift through a charitable foundation. The charitable foundation is the legal donor and needs to be issued the receipt but the donor designating the gift needs to be recognized.
Adding a Soft Credit:
Soft Credits are added once a donation has been saved to the constituents profile. After creating the donation you will pull up the payment overview for that gift and scroll to the bottom of the page.
Step 1: Listed under Soft Credits will be +Add soft credit. Select +Add soft credit and search for the soft credit donor, hit select.
Step 2: Select acknowledgment details, and finish by clicking 'Submit'.
After a soft credit has been added, it will be displayed when viewing a constituents giving history. At this time soft credits are unable to be added to an Affiliate Constituent, as Affiliate's are only meant for record keeping purposes and unable to have any donation information attached.
